Does CBD Get You High?

One of the most popular questions, does CBD get you high in 2018 will be the focus of this article.  The simple answer is no. CBD is a non-psychoactive naturally. CBD may make you feel more relaxed. This is what some people confuse with being high.

For those considering using CBD oil products is the possibility of getting high. However, there is a huge difference between the CBD oil and THC.

CBD is one of hundreds of compounds that are called cannabinoids. These cannabinoids are found in the cannabis plant. People use CBD for a numerous amount of things including:

  • Stress Relief
  • Mood Enhancement
  • Muscle Ache Relief
  • Helps Aid Sleep
  • Promotes Healthy Skin
  • Calms a Pet

In recent years the studies on CBD products has skyrocketed. Scientists are studying the health benefits and the research is not yet conclusive. However, cannabidiol is continually discovering and uncovering more and more supportive evidence.

Even though we hear lots of positive research about CBD, many people are overshadowing this information because of the information they hear about THC. THC is another compound found in the cannabis plant. THC is the part that will get you high. It has psychotropic properties that will leave you with feelings of:

  • Sedation
  • Anxiety
  • Relaxation
  • Delusions
  • Hallucinations
  • Elation

THC is not found in CBD oil, in fact a lot of the time CBD oil comes from the hemp plant instead of the marijuana plant.

Hemp vs. Marijuana

For you to fully understand why you will not experience a high from CBD, you must know that CBD can be made from both the hemp plant and marijuana plant.

CBD is fully legal when it is extracted from hemp. CBD that is sold in stores is mostly extracted from the hemp plant except in states where marijuana is legal. When you get CBD made from hemp you will only get small levels of THC (<0.3%). This is not enough to get you high or show up in your blood.

Now, CBD as stated before can be found in the marijuana plant. This could be legal if you are in an area where marijuana is legalized. If you are not in an area where marijuana is legalized then this certain type of CBD oil is illegal. When purchasing CBD made from the marijuana plant you are getting varying levels of both THC and CBD. The levels that you get are completely up to the dispensary. If you are concerned about getting high, avoid products made from marijuana completely unless you are able to confirm how much is CBD and how much is THC. This part would be done by a third party.

THC is found in low levels in the hemp plant and high quantities in the marijuana plant, while it is reversed for CBD. This is why most CBD oil is from the hemp plant because there is low THC and high CBD.

How CBD is Made

The hemp plants that are used to make CBD for the oils are bred specifically for these oils. The plant is meant to have the lowest concentration of THC and the highest concentration of CBD. CBD contains only .05-1% THC while marijuana contains 5-10% THC. Levels that are this low are considered negligible. This basically means its non-existent.

CBD is retrieved by three methods:

  1. Pushing Carbon Dioxide through the plant at a very high pressure.
  2. Using Ethanol
  3. Using a Carrier Oil

These methods ensure the highest concentration of CBD with the lowest concentration if THC. Many prefer the CO2 method because it is cleaner than using ethanol or oils.
