Does Cranberry Juice Help with Weight Loss?

When people are looking to lose weight, they tend to find curious stuff like losing weight using lemon water or even cranberry juice. Although this last one is quite famous, does cranberry juice help with weight loss?

This question is mostly related to a study released in Canada by the Canadian Cardiovascular Congress. Researches involved in this study wanted to find out how cranberry juice would affect someone’s body if intake for long period of times. Being more specific, they wanted to know how cranberry juice could affect cholesterol levels. The participants were asked to add cranberry juice at least once a day as a part of their normal diet. Interestingly enough, the outcome wasn’t something they expected: people had a significant decrease in both body mass and body weight. Thus, this made them believe that cranberry juice could help people with weight loss.

How it works?

So, does cranberry juice actually help with weight loss? The answer is: No, it does not.

Before answering why, we have to explain how the process of losing weight works: In order to lose weight, you have to create a calories deficit, meaning that you have to burn more calories than the calories you consume or retain in your body. This is done with controlling what you eat (diet) and turning into a more active person (exercises). Diet and exercises are the key factors deciding how much weight you will loss in a determined lapse of time.

As you may already know, one of the things nutritionists and health experts advice to do is cutting added sugar out of your life (Or at least reducing how much you consume) since added sugar is one thing that adds lots of calories to your body, thus, increasing your weight in the long run. In fact, added sugar is probably one of the main reasons people suffer from obesity in the US since even the fries from McDonald have added sugar.

The way the cranberry juice helped the participants lose weight was by replacing what they usually drank (beverages filled with added sugar) with cranberry juice, which adds way less calories than artificial beverages.

Since burning more calories than you consume is something that will significantly bring more benefits than anything else, cranberry juice can prove to be helpful if you use it instead of artificial beverages. Using it along diet and exercises will surely bring benefits, but cranberry juice does not actually help in losing weight.

Other benefits.

Cranberry juice brings other benefits to the body when consumed regularly. It improves your digestive health and reduces the risk of colon cancer thanks to its antioxidants and anti-inflammatory substances. It also improves your heart health but the most known benefit from cranberry juice is preventing urinary tract infections.

Take in mind that eating the fruit raw is far more effective than drinking it in the form of juice. This actually happens with most fruits, yet, cranberry juice is still effective and we encourage you to try it out and see if you can add it in your regular diet.
